My little pumpkins

We had a fun family outing this past weekend at the Dallas Arboretum. We finally had some beautiful fall weather and were able to take some fun pictures of the babies in the pumpkins. We went really early to beat the crowd. (I'm still so nervous about being around large crowds of people..... my poor babies are going to be hermits this winter.)

In other news, Carson and Avery are three weeks old as of yesterday. I can't believe that we have had them for three weeks now. The days have been going by so fast. I've been trying so hard to get them on a schedule, but they are babies and aren't always hungry at the same time, so that has made life fun!! During the night I make them eat at the same time so we can all get some sleep, but during the day it's kinda been a free for all. But we are figuring it out... and are loving being parents so much! They had their two week well baby check up last week. Carson weighed 6lbs 6oz and was 20.5inches long and Avery weighed 6lbs 13oz and was 19.9inches long. They gained a pound each in a week.... they are really good eaters. But they are still only in the 5th and 10th percentile for their weights. They already seem so big to me.

1 week old already

Avery sleeps like her daddy: mouth wide open.
All the cousins together for the first time.
Little cuddle bugs
First time in their car seats
Going home from the hospital
First day at home
At their first pediatrician appointment. Carson peed all over his doctor, his mommy, and Avery's carseat. Avery weighed 5lbs. 11oz. (she was 5lbs. 7oz. when we left the hospital) and Carson weighed 5lbs. 7oz. (he was 5lbs. 4oz. when we left the hospital) They are growing!!
All of us at our favorite breakfast restaruant in Wylie. This is the place we went the morning we found out we were having twins.
Carson just lounging.
I can't believe they are already 1 week old. This past week has been so fun. We have been trying to get them on some sort of schedule and they pretty much eat every 3 hours. They sleep a lot as most new babies do. We are a little tired and my hormones have definately kicked in and I've had a couple of tearful moments. But overall we are doing really good and are so happy to have them. They already have little personalities. Avery is little miss demanding. She knows when she wants something. Therefore she usally gets to eat before her very laid back brother. Carson is my easy going boy. He patiently waits his turn and usually only fusses when he is cold. They are both so sweet and are starting to have little periods of awake time with their eyes wide open. I could just sit and hold and stare at them all day. They are just so precious.

Birth Pictures

What an amazing day September 29th was for us. I went into the OR at about 5:30. We were delayed getting started because my blood pressure was so high when they took me back. It was 178/120 right before the c-section was supposed to start. They gave me some BP medication and a little sedation to relax me. It came down to a more reasonable number and they were able to give me the epidural and get started. The extra time I spent back there was really a blessing because it gave Shane some time to relax a few minutes before they brought him back. Everything was so rushed and he was nervous and a little pale. But by the time he got to the OR he was fine. He did great, no passing out!! And a few minutes later Avery Elizabeth was born at 6:05 weighing 6lbs. and Carson Alan was born at 6:07 weighing 5lbs 10oz. They were both 18.5in. They both came out screaming. It was the most beautiful noise! Let me tell you, there is nothing like hearing your baby cry for the first time. It was so amazing! I spent the first night and part of the next day in labor and delivery because they had to start magnesium for my blood pressure. That first night was rough, they had to wake me up every hour to check my BP, plus the magnesium makes you feel awful. I went up to postpartum on Wed. and was feeling much better. The next couple of days in the hospital were wonderful. It was just such an awesome time of getting to know my babies and bonding with them. Shane was so great with them from the very start. He's already an amazing daddy. I didn't have to ask him to do anything. He jumped right in there with feeding, diaper changing and baby holding. I really loved my time in the hospital. It was so fun to just be with my new family. All the nurses were great and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Here are some pictures of the delivery.
Our favorite picture of them. About 30 min after delivery. Carson is the one on top with his arm around Avery.

Today's the big day!!

We only have a few more hours left to go before Carson and Avery will be here. I can't believe that it's time. This pregnancy actually went by really fast even though the last 5 weeks were spent on bedrest. We are excited and nervous at the same time. It's so weird to sit here and look at the clock and know that in 4 hours we will be delivering our babies! I can't wait to see their faces and hear them crying! It's going to be amazing! Here is one last picture of my belly taken today at 37 weeks.

This is our last picture together as just a married couple with no kids.... crazy!
Again, please excuse the stretch marks, but lets face it people..... there's two babies in there!
We will post pictures of the babies when they are here. Please pray that everything will go smoothly today and that the babies will come out pink and screaming!

Just a few more days....

We officially only have a few days left before we are parents. My blood pressure has continued to increase over this past week, and Wed. night I was admitted to the hospital. My BP at home was 150's/100's so my dr. decided that it was time to come into the hospital. It was still high when we got here Wed, and my dr was very close to delivering them that night. But thankfully we waited a little while and my BP came down over night. He has decided to keep me here till delivery which will be Tuesday 9/29/09!! (my mom, by the way, is so excited about the fact that they will be born on 9/29/09..... she has been hoping throughout my whole pregnancy that they would be born on this day, she likes the way it sounds.... crazy MiMi) I had a sono with the perinatologist yesterday and he recommened that we deliver at 37 weeks. Both he and my dr. feel that it's not worth the risk of trying to go past 37 weeks. So we finally set a date yesterday for the big day (it sounds like I'm getting married). The babies looked great when they did the sono, they both measured at 5lbs. 9oz. So hopefully they will weigh close to 6 lbs each. We'll find out how accurate the sono measurements really are! So we are just going to wait patiently a couple more days for our little babies arrival. Being here in the hospital the last few nights has really made me thankful that I was able to be at home for most of my bedrest. There is just nothing like sleeping in your own bed. There are some women here that have been on hospital bedrest for months.... I can't even imagine! Thanks again for all of your prayers, texts, and emails. We really appreciate all of the support and encouragement. We will let yall know when they get here or if anything changes before next Tuesday!

Still cooking!!

I'm happy to report that Avery and Carson are still cooking away!! I am 35 weeks as of yesterday. When I found out I was having twins, I prayed I would make it this far and here we are... still pregnant! Thank you Lord for allowing me to carry them this far! On sono last week (34 weeks) they measured: Avery 5lbs 5oz and Carson 5lbs 1oz. They only measure them every few weeks, so the next time we get a weight on them may be at delivery! They are moving and kicking so much.... we can't wait to see what they will be like! My dr. appt on monday went well. My BP has been staying pretty steady at 140-150's/80-90's. The bedrest hasn't been too bad so far, only a couple of weeks left! My dr. would like to get to 37 weeks if we can... but I'm still hoping that he will let me go to 38. We will just have to see what my BP/labs/urine dips do over these next two weeks. So we are just waiting as patiently as we can for these two little babies to make their entracne into the world! Thanks for your prayers!!

Two sweet faces and one huge belly...

Avery (top) already has Shane's head shape and Carson (bottom) looks like he is puckering his lips.... Aren't they so sweet?

My belly at 32 weeks. Please excuse the stretch marks!
